heart-of-etro said: How many times would he have to meet this innocent face? How many times would he have to watch the light fade from her eyes? No more. Never again. They had all been played for fools. The Goddess Etro was dead, and all of time stood still like in Valhalla. Finally, Yeul was free. There, watching the chaos pour into all the world from beyond the gateway in Valhalla, he heard the young girl he had sworn to protect approach him.
” Caius… ? “
she spoke carefully, not sure why she was here, not sure if it was a dream, or perhaps the afterlife; then again, as far as she knew, Caius was immortal. so, what had happened? she could remember her last breath as if it was yesterday, and yet— here she was.
could she be a paradox? was she disrupting the timeline? ” I— do not understand… “
approaching him slowly, her hands curled into loose fists at her sides. what did she have to do? no one had told her anything about this.
Alyssa didn’t understand what the seeress mean by “yet to exist”. Even though she had been studying the excavation sites and any written source of the lost history of Paddra, there were still many gaps that even the research team could not unravel. Yet, this may be the perfect time to get some intel, or maybe a key or two to solve this mystery of the Paddra ruins and of the Seeresses.
“I have so many questions to ask you— regarding why your people have vanished, and how the history of the Farseers came to be…“
questions… how much would she be allowed to say? without Caius by her side… well, she was completely on her own, everything up to her judgement—
she should keep as quiet as possible, shouldn’t she. ” I have little answers to give you. I do not live in that time; or in any at the moment. “
“Hmpf,” Lighting scoffed as she placed her hands on her hips. It felt good to have a conversation like this, where she could be herself for a while. There was no need to put her guard up, she cannot hurt Yuel and Yuel cannot hurt her. As long as Yuel is around, Caius has no need to attack Valhalla for a bit. “If the end could be seen, it would make it all too easy. Yuel, we are ones who guide, that is our role.” Shutting her eyes, Light gave another smile as she continued to look up at the sky.
“We are doing the right thing by letting it happen.”
” of course, however, it is quite hard to fathom the end. you’re both equal in strength and bravery— “ she rooted for Caius, of course, but she didn’t want Lightning to die. she was a nice woman, and the other seeress deserved to see her, at least once more. considering the fate she was bound to, well, she’ll need the memory. or at least, be told the memory by her guardian, to give her strength.
“It is…hardly a matter of concern, but the fact that you retain your memories is not the first sign of change. Though she fights with the same inexhaustible vigor, shared throughout all our encounters, her emotions have seemed to have taken a hold over her, causing her to take leave of her senses. This has…never occurred before. It is a severe change in what once was. Perhaps, this is a sign of a changed future?”
He said it more for the sake of giving his charge hope, but at the same time, he wondered whether or not the two he had fought before had actually succeeded in their mission, and he was simply unaware of it. The change with Lightning was certainly absurd enough to give that theory some credence…
she smiled a bit at that, despite that it didn’t give her enough reason to believe they had succeeded, if everything else was the same. people had emotions for other people, especially those who engage in such dangerous acts together. they put their lives on the line each time, and although Caius’ heart with was her; Lightning most likely wore hers on her sleeve.
something was bound to happen.
” perhaps it is a sign that someone finds you handsome. ” she said, joking slightly.
“Wait a minute… you’re Yeul, the seeress from the lost city of Paddra, right?”
it’s odd to be recognized, to be seen; to be remembered. that Noel… had he spoken of a Yeul? or was it as that boy had said— that was seriously creepy. ” I am a Yeul, the one you speak of has yet to ‘exist’. “
Lighting couldn’t help but chuckled at Yuel’s statement. Her smile could not be replaced as she gently closed her eyes. “Yes, battling as always with me, however we cannot help. It is what we were given to do. To fight each other until one of us fall. He wished to destroy this place, I wish to protect it. We are both doing this for the sake of a precious person, do not forget that, Yuel.” However, she sighed.
“But…” her smile grew wider and calmer. “I do not mind fighting with him.”
” fate will not let me. ” she was to have a thousand and one hellos and good byes with he who guards. to forget him that was to cease to be the seeress. to cease to be Yeul. the smile did not go unnoticed. returning it with one of her own, albeit more subdued, she commented.
” to fall into a state of routine… you must be careful, for he is mercilessly. I wish I could see, how this endless war will culminate. “
but valhalla didn’t exist in the timeline, it was free of time, therefore, free of— well, anything. laws were naught there. it was the dark spot of her visions, or perhaps she was just not meant to see.
“We’ve studied your records extensively in the past years…” he nodded at her. It was quite the honor for him to meet the girl who had be famous throughout his research.
“Noel and Serah you mean?” he looked down. “It was a struggle, but yes. Yes, they did.” he looked up again giving her a smile.
records? she… had records? that was a bit unsettling. however, she looked downwards at the news. this must mean that she— she was gone as well. the one like her, bound to die and be reborn. ” I see… “
she refrained from saying anymore, looking around the area.
” you must protect the fruit of their labour, so that all can remain smiling. “
she didn’t want the world to be subjected to a terrible fate any longer; wasn’t her and that girl’s sacrifice enough to appease?
He gazed upon her with a slightly confused look, her being one of the few individuals who could ever gain a true emotion from the man. Her words brought about a mix of thoughts. Retain? Has she not forgotten her previous life? How could she still bear such a memory though? “Yeul…No. It did not. Time has repeated itself as it always has. I combat Lightning in Valhalla as I always hav-” Well…
oh.
she remained stoic, however, her eyes contained a bit of sadness. she had seen the future, but… it appears that it’s that’s not the future that was meant to happen. Caius, he must’ve known this, deducted it from his extensive time with her, or perhaps just downright changed it himself, and yet—
things were really unfair most of the time. ” I see. “
removing her hand, she gave him a questioning look.
“No… not yet and I cannot see her for long.” That was Lighting’s fate, she will return home one day but perhaps not with Serah as she so wish for it. Shutting her eyes, the pinkette took her hands away from Yuel and looked up at the sky. “I have accepted my duty, as so did you.”
she knew this, but with the future changing at high speeds as they flitted throughout timeline— well, anything was possible. … ” of course. “
” I supposed he still insists in battling, as always. ” this wasn’t even a question, more like a statement. she knew him— she knew him better than anyone; so she was merely restating what was already known.
